Hey guys,
I decided to demonstrate teaching the IELTS speaking test. As you can see it is very easy so don't be intimidated to teach it if a student asks and you never have taught it before. Also, I cheated for this demo lesson by using one of the most fluent English speakers I have taught at English Aloud. Ahahaha. One thing I want to point out is that you will notice I don't correct his mistakes for the most part DURING the practice test. That's because I think it is crucial to mimic the exact conditions of the test during the practice. Others may disagree. Also, you'll find many of your students have taken the tests several times, so be sure to ask them about their experience: how exactly the test is conducted that isn't mentioned in the books. For example, I've been told the IELTS is fairly informal and much more conversational than the TOEFL, so you can ask clarification questions when conducting the test.
Any criticism is most welcome. I've already noticed two things: 1) I am sooooooo! fidgety! 2) I say "right" allllll the time. Distracting! Ahaha.
Oh and my student scans in the pages for me, so now I have several pages. They make good conversation practice questions as well, so if anyone would like them, let me know and I'll forward them to you.
Cheers
Carrie
