Teaching low-level students (Use beginner level textbooks: Reading Starter books or lower-level English books: such as Super Easy Reading Book 3, Reading Time, Very Easy Reading 1, Teaching Phonics)

-It is important to teach phonics to help with pronunciation and language development

-Students with low-level English may need extra help outside of class from their parents who speak both English and Korean. Some parents may be too busy or don't speak English at all. Please try to find out your student's situation and determine if they need additional support. All Compass Media Books have Korean translations that can be downloaded for extra help from our website. Students who are registered on the website can also access these files. Please send these files to the students or ask Kevin to send them. It is better that you show the translation on your screen or send the Korean text as a Skype message.

Teaching with video:

-Use screen-sharing (show the students your screen to show pictures, videos, or drawings from your computer instead of file sharing)

-Send and receive files-- make sure to send compressed or small files (such as one page only) to your students to save time

-Utilize programs from your computer to teach, a good example is the paint program. You can draw on Paint while sharing your screen to demonstrate ideas to your student or play a review game

-Use videos with subtitles so your student can read and listen at the same time

-Use the messaging function of skype to type difficult words and phrases to students so that they are able to see them and look up words they don't know after class if they like

TOEFL Preparation Lessons:

-Many students need help preparing for the TOEFL test, it is important to understand the test and how to help

-Familiarize yourself with all sections of the test, particularly speaking.

-Work with the students on sample speaking prompts
