Dokdo – Small but The Most
Precious Treasure in Korea.

All of you might have heard the Name : Dokdo. When you hear the name , what kind of images do you have in your mind? A far-far-away island ? or an island which Japan claim theirs unreasonably? From now on , I am going to explain why this small island can be the most proud symbol of Korea.
Among Ulleungdo and Dokdo , which one do you think is the older in geographical term? Or Among Jejudo and Dokdo , which one do you think appear first? Yes , astonishingly , Dokdo is the very first island among the three island. Dokdo was made 2 million years earlier than Ulleungdo and 3.5 million years before Jejudo. So, Dokdo is the small but eldest island in Korea.
Another aspect of uniqueness of Dokdo is its precious natural surroundings. There are many native plants which lives only in Dokdo and Ulleungdo like Sum-jang-dae. Also Over 100 years old sa-chul trees live in Dokdo. Overall, In Dokdo, more than 60 kinds of plants , 110 kinds of insects and 600 kinds of creatures peacefully live including natural monuments like black pigeon , sol-gae.
Also below Dokdo, there is tremendous amount of gas dydrate which is a kind of natural energy resource. It is a kind of natural gas that has a lot of methane in it , so it can be burnt and made energy from it. The thing that is important is the energy from gas hydrate is clean energy compared to oil and coal.
