Teacher Manual
Discussion Topic: To improve their English dramatically, students should study approximately one hour a day. So they should study English a minimum 5 hours a week. But our class is 25 min. a day, our students should study 36 minuts. more the day. If a student doesn't have class at our school, they should study English 60 min. alone or with their mom. We should make students study after our school. How can we do it?
Which students especially have the problem?
- Low reading level (Reading Starter 2 or below)
- Very young (aproximately 9 or younger)
- A student for whom English Aloud is their only English class outside of school
Their problems:
They are new to English, so they don't know much about it, so they should learn and memorize so many things to undeerstand English. It would be a hard dry job for the students, while at a more advanced level, learning English becomes much more enjoyable as the students no longer have to struggle with every word and to make him or herself understood.
Solutions:
Giving homework can be one way of ensuring that the student takes time to study out of class.
1.) Fundamental homework for the students: Reading and repeating or memorizing the text.
-This should be done every night without the teacher needing to remind the student.
2.) Repetition / Preparation
- when a teacher
Tips for teaching:
1) Using a lot of visual stimulus is one way to help a new student.....
2) Quizzes
3) Dictation
4) Rewards
5) "think in English"
6) repatition and preparation (review)
How to get students to study (1 hour a day):
- Assigning homework is one way to help ensure that your student is studying English outside of class. Basic homework is integral to ensuring progress.
Fundamental Homework:
a) Read a short piece of writing in the book 10 times and write it down (or type) at least once.
Our Goal:
The students should take classes until they are in 10th grade and come back as college students.
