SHARON's BOARD
Sights of fire-breathing creatures have been seen all over the world and in many different cultures. Whether a dragon sighting is considered a good or bad thing varies according to where you are. For some people, dragons were bad creatures known to eat people. For others, dragons could be a good sign. In Japanese culture, for example, most dragons were seen as nice creatures that protected people.
Dragons have captured people's imaginations around the world-- and have been shown in their art -- since ancient times. Dragons have appeared on paintings, pottery and other objects.
Dragons were so notorious in medieval Europe that early map makers used the phrase "Here be dragons" onto maps to mark unfamiliar and possibly dangerous territories. Dragons were seen as the mysterious unknown.
Today, dragon mythology still influences many things. Dragons played an important role in the "Harry Potter" series by J.K. Rowling and showed up in the movie "How to Train your Dragon".
