Winter is around us. It reminds me of the memory of last winter. I was in Chicago last year. As you might remember, Chicago was freaking cold last year. People called it Chi-beria. I barely went out at the time, but I had to go out for class. One day, the temperature was about -20, and something happened. I misstepped, and fell off the stairs. It was so painful that I couldn't see straight. Luckily, I calmed down, but unluckily, I had a sprained ankle. I was lame. I needed to go see a doctor, but my insurance was expired.
In 2012, I had never seen the doctor, so I thought I was OK without insurance in America. That thought was huge mistake.
I had to find a Korean physical doctor who could discount the medical fee. Finally, I found one, and he was really nice. He wrapped my leg, but at the time, I wore Ugg boots, so when I put the wrapped leg on the boot, it was too small. Thankfully He gave me a shoe for the patient who wears a cast.
I thought everything would go well till I went to sleep. The nightmare got started during the night.
My leg, which is wrapped, was swollen. It made me wake up hundreds of times. Eventually, I called my mom, who was in Korea, to tell her I could not sleep, because of the pain. I said please call the doctor what was happening to me, as I screamed and cried. She said it was 7pm; all clinics except emergency room in Korea were closed. I said “All hospital in the U.S. is also closed, because it's 4am and I think it's better to call Korean doctor for you than me.” Unfortunately, my mom didn’t accept my asking, so I just unwrapped my leg and tried to fall asleep as I cried. Unwrapped leg made me so much better. Next day, I called the doctor who rapped my leg, told him what happened last night. He wanted me to go there again, so I did. This point, I totally agree that somebody said that human-being tends to forget easily. I should have not worn Ugg boots, but I did. Because it was freezing out there, I wore that boots automatically.
The nice doctor wrapped my leg again, and my leg was too big to wear the boot again. I expected him to give me another shoe as he gave me before but he did not give me anything. Instead, he put plastic bags on my leg and wrapped my leg with it twice. Since I didn't wear any socks, my foot was completely bare, but plastic bags. I felt like I got a brand new Ugg boot. I called for a cab, but I should wait about 40min until I got a cab. I didn’t have enough time to wait for it; I just went out of the hospital to catch the cab, of course, with the brand new boot. There was no available cab though. I was standing about 30 minutes. Imagine It. It was freezing, like -20 or something. I was outside without shoe, people glanced me. I almost explained “because you are not a good person, you can’t see my left shoe.” Like the Emperor in the Emperor's New Clothes.
Eventually, I could hop into the cab. But, I should have called the cab, because I was standing out there almost 40 min.
When I arrived at home, I took a picture of brand new boot and posted it on Facebook
My all friends loved that new boot.
