David, Sam, and Lucas were Australian and they lived in the outback during the summer months. They lived in a very small house because they were very poor. They had many animals for pets and livestock: two-hundred sheep, sheep-dogs to control the sheep, and a baby kangaroo that Lucas owned. He stole it from a mother kangaroo when she was looking for water.
Water is difficult to find in a desert, and the outback is a desert. Food was also hard to find, in fact, it was big problem this summer because the family had no car and the delivery person had mysteriously disappeared. However, it was a family with a lot of skills. David was the strongest, Sam was the bravest, and Lucas was the smartest. They traveled across the desert by using solar motorbikes. Solar energy was easy to get in the desert, where the sun is hot and very strong.
They went to town and got some food and water, using money to pay for it. They ate the food and survived. They realized that having mother home was really helpful, they hoped she would come back soon!
