Who was Babe Ruth?

Babe Ruth was one of the most famous baseball players in history. His real name was George Herman Ruth Jr., and he was born in Baltimore, USA, in 1895. He became known as “Babe” during his early playing days. Ruth was loved not only for his powerful hitting, but also for his cheerful personality, sense of fun, and ability to inspire huge crowds of fans.

Changing baseball

Before Babe Ruth, baseball was mostly about short hits and strategy. Ruth changed the game by hitting home runs that thrilled the crowd.

A home run happens when the batter hits the ball out of the field and scores by running all the way around the bases. Ruth’s strength and skill made baseball far more exciting, and he became a national star.

Career highlights

Ruth started his career as a pitcher, a player who throws the ball to the batter. Soon, however, his batting became so famous that he focused on hitting. He played for teams such as the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Boston Braves. With the Yankees, he won four World Series championships.

A lasting legacy

Babe Ruth hit 714 home runs during his career, a record that lasted for decades. He became a symbol of American sport and is still remembered as “The Sultan of Swat.” Ruth showed that sports could be entertaining, inspiring, and full of personality. Even today, people who have never watched baseball know his name.
