Do you want to write more but feel stuck?

Then try this trick (note- be careful not to plagiarize if you post or publish)

What it does:

--Allows teachers and parents to get the students to study the reading further

--Gets students writing

--Develops a new understanding of sentences

--Helps students see the recycling nature of English usage

--Actually promotes creativity and fun for the students (i.e., they feel important and useful which in turn makes them want to do it all again)

Task:

1) Pick a reading

example-

More School Subjects 2

"Sweet Home, Alcatraz" p58

2) Copy the original text from one paragraph

The prison warden lived in the largest house. It connected to the jail house. The warden chose prisoners with good conduct to let them work at his house. These prisoners sometimes cleaned and cooked there. They also took care of the garden.

3) Delete the "skin and flesh" and add blanks so the "bones" of the sentences are left behind (delete less for beginners)

example-

The ____ lived in the _____. It connected to the _____. The ____ chose ____ with good _____ to let them ____ and ____ on a _____. These ____ sometimes _____ and _____ there. They also took care of the ____.

4) Fill in the blanks with a different idea/story

example from Macy-

"The dragon lived in the largest cave. It connected to the largest mountain. The dragon chose a doughnut with good fiery coffee to let him eat ham and sit on a bench. This lunch was sometimes strange there. He also took care of a cat."

5) Pretty soon the students can delete the words of their choosing on their own
