Cosmetics have been used throughout history. It means  not only people in today but also ancient used it.

 a wide variety of  cosmetics were used from the ancient Greeks, the Egyptians, and the Romans.

Moreover, the type of cosmetics were different from each country. For instance, Egyptian used kohl around their eyes. However, Romans put white chalk on their faces. (The reason why they have different kind of Cosmetics is becuase they have different culture.)

In addition, some of the ancient people used cosmetic as their faces protection object(I'm not sure if this word is correct), but the others ..actually,the most of them used cosmetic to improve one's appearance.

Today, people do and invent a lot of things  in the name of their beauty; such as wearing makeup , wearing high heels, and doing plastic surgery.
