Today (Novermber 26th) is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. Today there is a famous parade on television that many people watch on TV. This parade has taken place on Thanksgiving morning every year for the past 83 years. You can learn more about it online at macysparade.com
People will eat turkey with their families and friends to celebrate this special day. Tomorrow, people will begin putting up Christmas decorations, and go shopping. Stores begin to open at 3:00 am or 4:00 am with special sales for the day after Thanksgiving.
Here is the history of Thanksgiving, from a history book:
The Pilgrims (the first people to arrive at America from Europe) had their first Thanksgiving feast in 1621. They had much to be thankful for. Their first winter in America had been very hard. But now they had homes to stay in and food stored up for their second winter. And they had made friends with the Indians.
Today Americans have much more to be thankful for. We live in a free country. We have homes, plenty of food, warm clothing, and good friends. Many Americans travel far to be home with their families for Thanksgiving.
