Hello, I'm Taehoon, Jiyun's dad.
It was nice to talk to you on last Friday and Jiyun also enjoyed the conversation with you.
I just wanted to provide a few more background information about Jiyun, which I believe will be helpful for your future class withher. Like Jiyun said, she lived in Austin, TX for two years from 2015 to 2017 when she was 5~7 years old. In Austin, she went to Pre-K where she was naturally exposed to English speaking environment. However, Jiyun hardly developed reading and writing skills until she got back here in Seoul because she was too young there. After she returned to Korea, she have been staying focused on reading and writing in English academy, which is inevitable in part because she just cannot have chance to use English verbally. However, I really want her not to be scared of speaking English to others. And that's the reason we decided to try this program and quit the academy. I need you to encourage her to speak English ALOUDLY as much as possible. She might not be able to recall or pick right vocabulary. Jiyun told me that she could not help but stammering because she couldn't come up with the vocabulary during last class with you. I told her not to be passive like she should during her regular class in her school.
- She is the only child of our family.
- She loves almost all the cartoons in NETFLIX. (hope you like them too)
- She goes swimming lessons 2 times a week. (Usually she likes it, but sometimes she hated it)
- Like all the students around the world(?!), she is basically confined to home because of Covid-19.
- She does online school every morning.
- She just learned and statred to enjoy riding a bike.(She will love to talk about it)
- During weekend, Jiyun, my wife, and I spent as much time as we can riding bikes and taking a walk along river in our neighbor.(wearing masks ㅜㅜ)
- Jiyun told me the book(that we chose last Friday and received today) is too easy for her, and I told her that Victoria will speed up to move on to next book if that's the case.
- She took a road trip and visited a few places in Canada while we lived in US. We went to Banff, Louise lake, a huge glacier(?), Toronto, Vancouver, and Quebec. I doubt if she remembers anything of the places, but I'm sure she remembers a huge bus with giant wheels running on the glacier. (BTW, what part of Canada do you live?)
I wrote everything as they came and hit my brain. Sorry for that.
Hope you enjoy the class with Jiyun.
Thank you.
