0. Small Talk:

0.1: Teacher Phoebe: We have a new teacher at our school: Phoebe. She is from Vermont, USA, but currently lives in Chile. She studied Romance Languages in Oregon, USA. She taught at our school from 2011 to 2013. So she is back!

1. Video rule: Don't watch a video in class more than 5 min. in a row. If the video is 6 min. long, please watch it for 3 min and stop it and talk about it and then watch the rest of the video. There are some complaints about watching video.

2. We will make an introduction video for our website. Teachers should read the following aloud:

We are an online English school based in S. Korea. We have been teaching Korean students all over the world since September 2008.

Class:

Our target is that students learn English, as if they were in the USA or in the UK. That is not only because our teachers are American or British, but also we developed some special educational techniques. Students will experience a lot of things with the teachers at our school and they will talk about it again. Our teachers will give a lot of interesting questions and students should think about them after school too. Students will begin to think in English at our school.

Our class is typically one to one. You have to talk in class, because you are the only student. This is a unique experience students will get from a school like us, even the students who are living in the USA won't get these experiences easily. This is the reason why students in the USA take our classes.

Teaching one-to-one lessons really makes a big difference versus classes with multiple students at once. First of all, there are fewer distractions. The student is not focused on socializing with his friends, but on learning. Having the lesson at home the parents can be close by to supervise, and if there is anything wrong they can notice and report it immediately, unlike in an academy setting where they may not know what is going on. Also, the lessons are personalized to the student's level and needs, so that they can have the best and most efficient lessons possible to help that student improve. It is amazing how quickly students are able to improve under these circumstances.

Many believe that these lessons are mainly meant for speaking practice. In fact, these lessons can be used for all English skills (including reading, grammar, and writing), and also for test preparation (TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, etc.).

Teacher's Party & BAND & Writing Festival:

We have teachers' parties every month, usually on the last day of the month. Younger students (middle school age and younger) will be invited by their teachers to come to the party. There, they will find other students just like them. Each party has a new theme, so the students don't have to be nervous because they can prepare something to talk about. Some examples are "strange stories" or "riddles". Our favorite teachers' party each year is the Halloween Teachers' Party in October.

We have school NAVER BAND communities in English to communicate among teachers and students outside of class. It is another opportunity to practice English in an everyday setting. Students and teachers post interesting things they want to share. It is a fun way to know each other while using English.

Phoebe

We have a Multimedia Writing Festival in December. Each year students can submit a written speech with or without a video on specific topic. Students work together with our native teachers during the lesson to work on their entries. The teacher can help the students with pronunciation and grammar, and the students can practice their presentations. The contest is a great way to motivate students to practice their English as well as prepare for other speech contests.

Conclusion:

It has been proven that the best way to learn a language is through immersion in the language. By teaching entirely in English, the student begins to use English consciously and subconsciously. Our teaching techniques promote this, and creates a similar learning style to immersion in the USA, and encourage the student to continue thinking in and learning English outside of the lessons. Parents can expect similar advantages to living in a bilingual setting, even though the student stays in Korea. You will not be wasting your time and money with our efficient teaching style.

In addition, we are proud to say that we are the first online English school in Korea that has only native teachers. Though there are other schools in Korea older than us, they mainly utilize English teachers from within Asia, for example, from the Philippines. But we have only American, British, and Canadian teachers.
