In winter it's very cold. We Koreans usually say winter to Wintergeneral (Jack Frost) because winter is so cold and scary. But we have to survive and overcome the cold. Therefore our forefathers made some events that consisted of three parts.

The one is kite flying. When winter comes all of children and young men come out the village field holding kites made by their grandfathers. They prayed for luck and took off their misfortunes on the kites. When the kite rose up high, they severed the string and let loose a kite.Till now that traditional event is continued. Especially the making of kites is a traditional art. There are many official cultural assets of kite making. The drawing on the kite is very important in folklore art. The subject of drawing is mainly phantoms or shields because their meaning is a defense against badness. Some of kite lovers display the kite through the year.

The other one is fire play called mice fire lying (MFL). It is played with perforated can. The method of MFL is that a small wood fire is lit in can. And men hold the metal string that was connected the can. Subsequently, they swing the fire can over their heads. Finally the fire smoke filled the field. And we can see the fire circle in ground clouds. It is very beautiful scene. The smoke and fire circle exorcise the mice out of village. I think It is very beneficial traditional event. But the mice were vanished when the event has vanished.
